Chief Commercial Officer , Evening Standard

James started his media career at Independent News & Media before moving on to the Scotsman. In 2006 James joined the Evening Standard for 9 brief months as a Sales Exec before becoming responsible for driving revenue across the Evening Standard and the newly formed title London Lite. In a move coinciding with the Evening Standard's successful transition to a free publication, James stepped up to become Head of Newspapers to drive key business across the print product. 

In 2014 James was promoted to Head of Trading for the ESI Media group (including the recently acquired Independent and launch of i) and not long after was part of the senior management committee behind the planning, implementing and successful sale of the i to Johnston Press.   James' most recent move within the business came in February 2020 when he was announced as the new Commercial Director at a time when the business, the industry and the world were entering an unknown time. On his watch the ES commercial team have successfully navigated a turbulent year and have made the shortlist for Branded Con tent Team of the Year at both the British Media and the Drum Online Media Awards.   James adopts an honest, strategic and trusted approach to business, believing collaborating and openness are key to success. And when he's not driving business forward in the media industry, James can be found walking his dog Frankie with his family in West London.
